So I had some fun, took a back road that is almost a single lane as well. I had a beat up track 944 with me for a bit and then he broke off. I was going to go through Muir beach but it was a tourist nightmare. So it is basically like this:

You can also turn right onto the Fairfax Bolinas rd at that split at the the end of W. Ridgecrest Blvd. For once I had a family car pull over and wave me by, pretty rare occurrence. Once you get up on Pan Toll rd. there isnt usually anyone around on a weekday. Thankfully not many cyclists to speak of. The pictures here show the only place I stopped, there have been a few car commercials filmed here, fog can come all around or the hills can be green etc...

It is a really amazing road, sometimes the fog creeps up to the road and with all the elevation changes its like driving across the top of a cloud. Perfect weather today though, pretty warm but a nice breeze.

When I lived in Menlo Park, my favorite Saturday was to drive up Highway 1 to Stewarts Point and turn right on to Skaggs Springs Road. Ride that all the way to Healdsburg. Skaggs is basically an hour-long paved fire road through Heaven. That drive will change your life.
Make sure you stop off at the Gustafson winery on the way!

I have been looking at the map up north. Thanks for the idea, there are a few I was looking at. Some down south too. This one is supposed to be pretty cool too, Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd, Big Sur, CA 93920

Man, to go up there I think it will be about 4hrs 17min round trip. My wife would never go, my dog hates the Z, loud and bumpy. I saw another drive you may know, HWY 130 over mt. Hamilton down by San Jose, goes all the way out to I-5. That would be a long day too. Bonus is there is race gas on pump down south, I could top off with that haha. I have triple carbs so the higher octane is better.

Yeah, I would make full day trips way up the coast pretty often. It was my therapy. Helped me be nice to people during the week! I have friends all over Wine Country, so Id sometimes just make a weekend trip out of it. As for Mount Ham, I seem to remember a lot of bikes on 130, so keep that in mind. Oh, and when I lived in Hollister I would drive south on 25, turn East on Panoche Road, and get lost out that way. It gets hot as hell out there, but the roads are abandoned except for those little ground squirrels (tire fodder). I managed to V-max my 2008 Civic Si out that way!
